Mother to Myself - Portrays the need for nurturing and connecting as felt through a young woman's heart who is propelled between two cultures
Tanya Ko-captures in these spare, elegant poems, a world
of cruelty, suffering and survival.
Here is beauty juxtaposed with pain so deep it's almost
impossible to put into words. And yet this fine poet does just
that. She breaks our hearts with the truth and astonishes us
with her compassion."

Tanya Ko Hong’s poems in Mother to myself are blooming red in the desert with a burning consciousness of displacement. Kim has faith in Ko’s poetry, her voice gives voices to the voiceless, silent women immigrants and the diaspora that speaks the truth in such a unique and authentic poesy. This is also a poem that examines Korean immigrant history in the early 1980's. She shows the sorrow of seperations, adopting new cultures, and the process of becoming a citizen. This book has an impact as a bridge to both generations between families and opens the door for foreigners to understand immigrants' lives.
